"The Irritable Bow-Wow Syndrome" is the third episode of Season One. It originally aired on October 11, 1997. It was written by Mark Amato and directed by Frank Paur.

Synopsis[]

Agents K and J investigate a Charnock landing site at a farm. Their only clue is a skin. After Jeebs and Frank argue at Jeebs' pawnshop, the real Charnock appears disguised as a fat, grumpy man. Jeebs shows him the Void Density Core, which is like a miniature black hole, sucking anything within a three-mile radius. He tells him that it isn't for sale, but he doesn't listen. He threatens to activate the core but Jeebs knocks it out of his hand. Frank puts the core in his mouth to carry it. But, out of shock, he accidentally swallows it! Now the Charnock is after him! Can K and J save Frank from getting "sucked inside myself!"?

Plot[]

The episode begins with K and J attending a baseball game, but what they’re really after is any alien in disguise. The batter hits a home run, and they found their target: a brain-like alien disguised as the ball. Before it flies off into the distance, K shoots the brain with his blaster, thus causing the creature to plummet back to earth.

During their drive to their next alien investigation, J misses the moments when he would engage in conversation with other peers, K included. With just a few words to speak, K is not mainly into chit-chat after reminding J that the duo and the other agents had their memories wiped away upon joining. Their first stop takes them to a field where they encounter a man whose barn was destroyed, leaving a huge crater in the ground. The man is neuralyzed upon being told he’s been awarded a new barn. Inside the crater, the agents discover the skin of an alien called a Charnock lying on the terrain whose aircraft has disappeared, but the creatures come to earth via asteroid.

At his pawn shop, Jeebs tries to evacuate Frank from his store, but the pug continues to make rebuttals before anything else happens. Suddenly, a Charnock disguised as an overweight man comes into the store, and Jeebs presents him a blaster handy for Skraaldians, but the clerk offers him a new item: a metal ball the size of an apple with multiple hill-shaped buttons on the surface. The disguised alien activates the ball, setting off a bright display of lights before Jeebs chucks it away and it rolls down Frank’s direction and carries it with his mouth. The Charnock throws Jeebs against the wall and does some more damage to the store, and Frank swallows the metal ball on his way out. K and J drive down to Jeebs’s place and ask the disembodied pawn shop clerk about what happened. While Jeebs lies to the agents about what went on, K sprays the shop with a special black light spray highlighting the prints that were left on the walls and floor, the Charnock and Frank’s prints included.

As he heads back to his newspaper stand, Frank is confronted by the Charnock who chases him down the block and wind up at a construction site. During their pursuit, the disguised alien starts to lose his disguise bit by bit, but not before a wrecking ball controlled by J knocks the beast out, but gets back up to go after Frank and the agents, which K shoots with his blasters. Knocked out, the Charnock’s disguise molts off and flies out into the open. K confronts Frank with regards to explaining the goings on from the latter’s side of the story.

At headquarters, Frank is in the interrogation room and is told to explain what happened, but tells some lies while giving out the details. Zed instructs the agents to keep an eye on him until he figures out about it all. The trio gather at a hotel where K activates protective metal alloy blinds and leaves J to chat with Frank while the slick’s partner runs some errands. During their time together, Frank tries to spit out the object he swallowed, but claims it was a hairball. Later, during their conversation, they exchange a little Q&A session with a couple of questions being K’s favorite music and what is underneath Frank’s dog skin, given that he is an alien disguised as a dog. J’s food he ordered arrives, and upon opening the lid, a powerful waft of smoke fills the room and Jeebs grabs Frank, but not before the pawn shop clerk gets apprehended by MIB.

With K now back at the hotel, he too is curious about what Frank swallowed. Frank still denies it, but reveals the truth to him through a short film about the metal ball in action. Known as the Void Density Core, the sphere in the film is shown to suck up all the vehicles, buildings, and other objects of a town square before a powerful explosion causes the area to appear barren and empty, and the Core’s power fades out. After the film ends, at a loss for words, Frank is shocked to realize that what he swallowed was a black hole in the form of that metal ball.

L arrives to attempt to free the Core from Frank, and informs that Frank only has an hour before the Core goes off. The agents try to hold the dog still, but the Charnock breaks through the metal casing of the room and takes Frank with it. They go after the aliens who are at the top of the Chrysler Building and leaving Frank tied up in a sticky substance provided by the Charnock. The trio arrive at the scene and simultaneously attempt to stop the Charnock and pry the Core from Frank’s insides. J’s attempt to free Frank comes in the form of wielding an emergency axe, which results in the Core finally leaving the angered Frank who got scared by J’s axe method. The agents’ mission to defeat the Charnock continues by K shooting the Core in midair and sucking up the Charnock in its path. Now inactive, the metal ball plummets to the ground and car runs it over, destroying it.

Back on the streets, J drops Frank off back at his newspaper stand and reveals to J his underskin, which Frank considers it ugly and gruesome in his opinion. Comparable to Cindy Crawford, even. J laughs it off and gets chased by Frank before hopping in the LTD in the nick of time. As the two drive back to headquarters, J puts on some Elvis music on the radio after learning that he got to know Frank… and K… a little better.
