The MIB Standard Issue Sidearm, also known as the Agent Pistol or "J2", was the primary field weapon for MIB agents. It's firepower had the capacity to disintegrate or explode partial or entire lifeforms.
Description[]
This is the standard side arm presented to all MIB agents and is the first weapon new agents are permitted to carry. Like all MIB weapons, the J2 is powered by a removable energy cell which fits into its handle like a normal ammo magazine. The J2 is a substantial improvement over the J1, which was a six-shot manual revolver utilizing bullet like energy cells.
With the introduction of advanced alien weaponry in the mid-1980's it became apparent that the Men in Black were outgunned by many of the unregistereds whom they were trying to apprehend. After much internal debate, it was argued that agents should be able to carry an automatic blaster, hence the introduction of the J2.
In 1989, because of pressure from agents in the Los Angeles bureau, it was determined that agents could carry all classes of weaponry up to and including the Carbonizer series.
The J2 emits a single energy blast with each firing. Compared to more advanced MIB weaponry, the J2 is a simple weapon, yet its ability to fire hundreds of times from a single energy cell makes it extremely useful.

The 2012 Standard Issue is the standard sidearm of MIB agents in the 2010s, appearing in Men in Black 3. It features a return to the large single barrel and similar firepower as the 1997. |
