A Reverberating Carbonizer is an alien weapon. It was used by the unnamed alien chased by James Edwards in the beginning of Men in Black.

Bug's Accomplice attempts to use the Carbonizer on James Edwards III
He attempted to use the weapon, but it fell and evaporated upon impact. Later, Edwards pointed the gun out at Jeebs' pawnshop, which Kay reprimanded Jeebs for. The weapon also has a mutate capacity, however it was not shown. According to Kay, it was often used for assassination purposes, causing him to deduce that the cephalopoid James Edwards encountered earlier most likely was undergoing an assassination mission and demanded from Jeebs unsuccessfully that he divulge who his target was.
Description[]
The "reverberating" refers to the noise this weapon makes. The "carbonizer" refers to what happens when it is discharged: any carbon the ray strikes is instantly transformed into charcoal. The effect is similar in principal to that of a heat ray, though the reverberating carbonizer completely skips the blistering step.
This weapon appears to be a chunky hand gun with its underside a funky, glowing yellow. It emits a high-pitched whine when activated.
